DS8000 Code Recommendation
Content
This generalized recommendation is made available to assist clients in implementing a code update strategy. It is a full field perspective, and as such, a customized recommendation which takes into account specifics such as business upgrade windows, length of time since last update, decommission plans, etc. may require assistance from local support teams. In general, recommendations assume planning updates annually. The word “must” in the notes below refers to bundles resolving specific problems for a targeted subset of DS8000s and communicated via My Notifications to clients, or ECA (Engineering Change/Field Actions) Information Alerts to IBM Service colleagues.

Note 2: DS8700/DS8800 Clients using RAID 10 must be on bundles R6.2 SP2 – 76.20.90.0/86.20.114.0 and systems that have RAID 10 or RAID 6 configurations are recommended to move to R6.2 SP4.1 – 76.20.107.0/86.20.130.0 or higher. Note 3: DS8700/DS8800 Clients using Extended Address Volume (EAV) capability in combination with FlashCopy must move to bundle R6.2 SP2.1 – 76.20.94.0/86.20.117.0 or higher. Note 4: DS8700/DS8800 Clients using zHPF are recommended to move to R6.2 SP3 – 76.20.98.0/86.20.121.0 or higher. Note 5: DS8870 (R7.1) Clients using zHPF must move to R7.1 SP3 – 87.10.102.0 or higher to avoid an IOS071I (start pending) issue. Note 6: DS8870 Clients on R7.4 GA that would like to take advantage of the new DS8000 GUI must move to R7.4 SP1.1 – 87.41.9.0 or higher to avoid issues with the open system host that are using LUN mapping. DS8700/DS8800 field fixes are now only being provided on R6.3 – 76.31.xx.xx / 86.31.xx.xx bundles. |
